Peggy Guggenheim was one of the most influential American collectors and exhibitors of contemporary art. Numerous young artists such as Salvador Dalí, Pablo Picasso and Jackson Pollock, whose works Peggy Guggenheim showed in Europe and America, owed her their early successes. She spent most of her life in Europe, enjoying a bohemian life in Paris in the early 1920s. In 1948, after opening galleries in London and New York, she acquired the historic Palazzo Venier dei Leoni on the Grand Canal, which she converted into a home with exhibition rooms for her collection. Open to the public, her palazzo attracted intellectuals and artists from all over the world. Peggy Guggenheim died on 23 December, 1979 and was laid to rest in the garden of her palazzo next to her 14 beloved Lhasa Apso dogs. Her private palace was restructured into a public museum in accordance with her will. This secured the lasting presence of her collection in Venice for further generations to admire.

The linear design of clip and cap, as well as the lines and shapes of black lacquer inlays in the platinum-plated cap and barrel, are inspired by Art Deco works from her collection. The red lacquer inlay spiral on the cone represents the striped mooring poles lining Venetian waterways. The lion’s heads embossed on the cap ring refer to Peggy Guggenheim’s Venetian palace, the Palazzo Venier dei Leoni, as well as the lion of Saint Mark, the symbol of Venice. In memory of the dogs she adored, the handcrafted Au 750 gold nib of the Patron of Art Edition Peggy Guggenheim bears a fine engraving of the paws of Peggy Guggenheim’s favourite breed.

The nib is available in the size M (Medium).

Scipione Borghese was an Italian Cardinal who lived from 1577 to 1633. Montblanc has dedicated two truly magnificent writing instrument to this Italian cardinal. The inspiration for the design of this fountain pen comes from his great love for Roman Baroque art and the Roman Baroque interior design. He collected a lot of this art in his Villa Borghese, and the interior of his villa was based on this artform as well.

The inspiration for the granite barrel of the Montblanc Patron of Art Borghese 4810 Limited Edition is the multi-coloured marble floor in the Galleria Borghese. The ornaments and pattern of embossing on the cap and around the cone of this edition dons antique motifs seen on the Borghese Vase. The design of the clip is inspired by the park at Villa Borghese. The artistically crafted clip, crowned by a smoky quartz, brings to mind the branches of the colossal old trees of this extraordinary park. The shape of the cap top, crowned with the Montblanc emblem of black and white precious resin, is reminiscent of a cardinal’s hat, while the cone top, made of carnelian on the Montblanc Patron of Art Borghese 4810 Limited Edition, is adorned with a portrait of Borghese. The 18kt gold nib is enriched with an engraving of the Borghese family coat of arms.

The production of this magnificent writing instrument is restricted to 4810 pieces. 4810 represents the height of the mountain Mont Blanc in metres.

This limited edition fountain pen from the Montblanc series Patron of Art is dedicated to the brutal leader of the Aztecs who ruled from the period of 1440-1469, Moctezuma I. The meaning behind his name, “he is angry like a lord”, suited his character.

The period in which he reigned was seen as the Golden Age of the Aztec empire, a period in which mythology and culture were at its highest peak. This bloomed especially in Tenochtitlán, which we now know as Mexico-City, the capital and heart of Mexico. Even today, the blooming culture of the said period is considered one of the most special cultures in world history.

The pen exhibits golden champagne coloured accents which are reflective of the golden period. These golden accents together combine to create the form of an alatl, a specific spear from the Aztec culture. The lower ends of the pen show an obsedian knife, an Aztec sacrificial knife.

Furthermore, the body consists of a petrol blue and carmine red design in lacquer. The colours represent the royal cloak of the leader, and the two hyrogliefs in the cap stand for the years in which Moctezuma was leader of the Aztec empire.

De solid gold nib is decorated with an engraving of the symbol of Tenochtitlán. This exists of a cactus, a kings diadem and two scrolls.

The pen is limited to 4810 pieces which are representative of the height of the Monblanc mountain, rising up to 4810 meters.

  • Every year since 1992, Montblanc has honoured an influential patron of art from the antiquity to the 20th century, with a limited edition writing instrument. Every Patron of Art Limited Edition underscores Montblanc’s belief that arts and culture are an essential part of any thriving society and can only flourish with the support of dedicated patrons. For its 30th (1992 – 2022) and final edition, Montblanc created a double edition, celebrating the lives and legacy of British monarch Victoria and her consort Albert.

This writing instrument marks the early years of the royal couple with a barrel in pearl-white lacquer, a symbol of purity and youth, and a cone embellished with a traditional Victorian pattern as well as the entwined “V&A” monogram, in which the couple liked to unite their initials.

The edition dedicated to Victoria features a cap in translucent mint-green lacquer, one of her favourite colours to wear. The decorative pattern visible beneath the lacquer of the cap is inspired by the fence surrounding the Albert Memorial in Kensington Gardens, London. The cap is adorned by a royal-blue crown and the Montblanc emblem in precious resin. The words “I will be good” are engraved on the cap ring. The shape of the clip is inspired by her sceptre with a green stone referring to her engagement ring from Albert. The handcrafted Au 750 solid gold, champagne-tone gold-coated nib is decorated with a stylised rose that represents Queen Victoria, who is still remembered today as ‘England’s Rose’.

The writing instrument is restricted to 4810 pieces, which represents the height of the Mont Blanc mountain in metres.

  • The Montblanc Patron of Art Edition in 2022 is dedicated to Queen Victoria & Prince Albert. The Limited Edition 888 is a remarkable couple edition, one edition honors Queen Victoria and the other one her consort Prince Albert. This writing instrument is dedicated to Albert.

The fountain pen comes with a cap and barrel made from red translucent lacquer and a solid Au 750 signature gold skeleton overlay. The skeleton is inspired by her coronation collar and her monogram while the red is inspired by her coronation dress. The fittings are platinum-coated. The clip shape is a tribute to her scepter while the green Tsavorite is a homage to her engagement ring. The cap top is inspired by a royal crown and is adorned with the Montblanc emblem made from mother-of-pearl.

While the cap ring bears the engraving of "Albert" and their wedding date just like a wedding band, a special engraving decorates the cone. As a homage to Victoria's nickname "England's rose", the handcrafted solid Au 750 gold bi-color nib bears an embossing of a rose. With signature gold and/or signature gold-coating, Montblanc describes the enlightened shade of yellow gold which has become an appreciated tone for the Maison’s Writing Instruments.

  • With the Montblanc Masters of Art Homage to Vincent van Gogh Limited Edition 4810, Montblanc celebrates Vincent van Gogh, one of the most popular painters of the late 19th century. This edition especially emphasises his time in Arles with design details reflecting the Provencal wheatfields and one of his most famous paintings, “Sunflowers”.

The engraved 1888 on the barrel ring - next to Vincent's signature in bright orange - commemorates the year when he moved to Arles. While the barrel is decorated in shades of yellow and orange reflecting the sun-drenched landscapes of southern France, the famous series of five sunflower paintings inspired the interpretation embossed on the handcrafted Au 750 solid gold, rhodium-coated nib.

Van Gogh developed a looser, freer style and becoming equally competent with brush and palette knife – which he used for chunky, impetuous “impasto” work. His palette knife inspired the platinum-coated clip, while his sweeping brushwork is immortalised in the yellow lacquer of the cap top. Furthermore, his fondness for pipe smoking, to which he referred in many of his self-portraits, is captured in a subtle detail of the clip: the upper part is shaped like a pipe’s bowl and filled with yellow precious resin.

As homage for Vincent's fascination of traditional Japanese woodblock prints, the overall shape is inspired by a Japanese woodcutting knife while the cap is made from wood.

The edition is crowned by a Montblanc emblem made of yellow precious resin.
